Description
Aside from an obvious nod to the famous Don Post Studios,
this digital art tribute piece is also a fusion of decoupage
to accentuate the 'Monster's & Mai Tai's" art show, held annually around Halloween,
at The Tonga Hut, in North Hollywood, California.
Founded in 1938, Don Post Studios created iconic masks for both Hollywood
and the everyman and even invented the classic rubber masks
that we all knew and loved as kids on Halloween.
During the 1960's and 70's, Don Post Studies advertised through Warren Publications, which included such magazines as 'Famous Monsters of Filmland', "Eerie', 'Creepy',
and 'Vampirella' magazines.
The original line of Don Post Hollywood Monster Calendar Masks
(so named because they were released in a 12 month calendar, first offered in 1966), featured the line-up of the Frankenstein Monster (Glenn Strange version), Count Dracula, Metaluna Mutant, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy (Kharis),
Mad Doctor,The Hunchback, Gorilla, Phantom of the Opera, Mole People,
and Dr. Jekyll as Mr. Hyde.
This is the company that produced the William Shatner/Captain Kirk mask
that became Michael Myers’ impassive visage in the HALLOWEEN series.
The studio was critical in the shaping of Monster Kids back in the ’60s and ’70s.
Don Post Studios closed in September 2012.
