This is a painting depicting the full arrangement of a long-since-banned
Red Rose Tea Commercial featuring the Marquis Chimps.
Jonathan Morrill has brought back this infamous combo,
performing at the Savoy Ritz, and brought to you for the first time
in living color.
This painting pays tribute to the artist's first memory of television.
Here is a backstory about the commercial:
In 1960, the Marquis Chimps were signed by Brooke Bond Foods
to do three commercials for Red Rose Tea.
Two of them featured the Marquis Chimps as golfers and cowboys respectively, but the one that everyone fondly remembers
is the one featuring the simian performers as a swinging jazz band.
The commercial starts with an establishing shot outside the
Savoy Ritz night club.
Inside, the band is blowing hot while a couple of chimp jitterbuggers
cut a rug on the dance floor.

About Jonathan Morrill
Jonathan Morrill is a Hollywood-based artist. His acrylic works of many a tinsel-town icon have graced the walls of La-La Land's great haunts, including Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where he appears as himself in the HBO documentary; "The Young and The Dead" (2000), painting an over-sized portrait of Rudolph Valentino as the "The Son of The Sheik", mere yards away from the icons final resting place. The piece is featured in Tracy Ryan Terhune's book 'Valentino Forever' (AuthorHouse, 2004) In 2019, that same 10' x 10' acrylic portrait continues to be displayed at the annual Valentino memorial.
