Artist's Description
This piece was first exhibited at the Creature Features Gallery in Burbank, California,
on Saturday, March 4th, 2017, for 'The Art Of King Kong' Exhibition.
Using references of original conceptual art by Byron Crabbe and Mario Larrinaga,
designs and concepts by Fred Reese, Victor and Marcel Delgado, Willis O'Brien, and Merrian C. Cooper,
the ingenuity and developmental skills of Vernon l.Walker, Linwood G. Dunn,
and the RKO optical printer,
pristine 16mm film prints containing deleted scenes,and rare, behind the scenes production stills,
I combined these resources to create film-like scenes that do not actually exist within any frame of the feature film.
King Kong is a black and white film.
There are rare sepia tone prints that, for me, as an illustrator with red/green color blindness, bring out depth, dimensions, light, and shadow.

About Jonathan Morrill
Jonathan Morrill is a Hollywood-based artist. His acrylic works of many a tinsel-town icon have graced the walls of La-La Land's great haunts, including Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where he appears as himself in the HBO documentary; "The Young and The Dead" (2000), painting an over-sized portrait of Rudolph Valentino as the "The Son of The Sheik", mere yards away from the icons final resting place. The piece is featured in Tracy Ryan Terhune's book 'Valentino Forever' (AuthorHouse, 2004) In 2019, that same 10' x 10' acrylic portrait continues to be displayed at the annual Valentino memorial.
