"Skating On This Ice" was unveiled
at The Carter Sexton Gallery
on Laurel Canyon, in North Hollywood,
at The Holiday Art Show on Saturday, December 5th, 2015.
It wasn't a good idea for me to put on my sister's white figure skates
and go figure skating on the river.
I should've gone to Dave's Grocery that day,
paid a buck-three-eighty,
and got a bottle of black kiwi shoe polish . . .but I didn't.
Instead I went down to the rivah,
close enough to where a group of tougher guys played hockey,
in their black hockey skates.
Perhaps it was the Glover brothers,
maybe the Banks' brothers,
or a mix of both.
As I recall, I had just begun a figure eight,
when they spotted me . . .
Jonathan Morrill is a Hollywood-based artist. His acrylic works of many a tinsel-town icon have graced the walls of La-La Land's great haunts, including Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where he appears as himself in the HBO documentary; "The Young and The Dead" (2000), painting an over-sized portrait of Rudolph Valentino as the "The Son of The Sheik", mere yards away from the icons final resting place. The piece is featured in Tracy Ryan Terhune's book 'Valentino Forever' (AuthorHouse, 2004) In 2019, that same 10' x 10' acrylic portrait continues to be displayed at the annual Valentino memorial.
